What is JDRF?

JDRF, the world’s leading nonprofit, non-governmental funder of diabetes research, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes—a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.  Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1.7 billion to diabetes research worldwide. Your support helps us continue toward our mission to cure, treat & prevent type 1 diabetes through the support of research & research related education. With your help, we will turn type one into type none!

JDRF & Type 1 Diabetes

  • JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 (TID) research.
  • The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by TID by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease.
  • Between 3-4 million Americans and 40,000-60,000 Louisianans have TID.  Every 30 minutes, someone is diagnosed with TID and this rate is increasing every year.
  • Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.7 billion to TID research.
  • JDRF was recently named an “all-star” charity by Forbes Magazine based off our efficiency rating.

We are moving research from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside, translating scientific advances into longer, healthier lives for those with diabetes.  With your help, we are moving closer to our goal…a cure for diabetes and its complications.”
